WGF 2019 has three FREE events, Saturday 5 October, hosted at Winchester Discovery Centre on Jewry Street. X2 talks in the cafe area, and a children’s concert in the library.
Talk 1, Sat 5th October 11am, will feature two world class, local guitar builder: Stuart Christie (Southampton area), and Oren Myers (Reading area). Both are well know in the classical guitar world for their fine instruments and are frequent exhibitors at guitar festivals up and down the country included West Dean, Greenwich Guitar Festival, Dillington, and Iserlohn Guitar Symposium (Germany). Both sell their guitars direct to players as well as through some of the worlds finest guitar dealers.
Both Stuart and Oren will have some of their guitars on display through much of the day for you to see (and try if you ask nicely). During the talk festival director Mark Eden will be asking them some questions about their lives and how they make such incredible guitars.
Also at 11am Saturday 5th October, Hannah Woollacott will be giving a Children’s Concert in the library, which will feature story telling, music and songs. A moment to explore the rich sound world of the guitar in an intimate venue and be enthralled by Hannah’s fine playing and friendly character.

So come along, find a comfortable place to sit down, listen, join in when you want to … that includes you mums and dads !! Suitable for babies to 5/6 year olds.
Talk 2 is at 3pm in the Discovery Centre’s cafe area again, featuring an audience with renowned lutenist Matthew Wadsworth. This will be an opportunity to hear about Matthew’s life before his concert the same evening at 9pm in St Lawrence Church. LATE NIGHT LUTE will be a popular concert so please book in advanced.
Matthew will be discussing his early years dealing with blindness, studying the guitar at Cheatham’s School, moving onto the lute and theorbo whilst at the Royal Academy of Music, to building an International career performing solo, accompanying singers, and playing in consorts.
