WGF14 10th Anniversary Year!

GaelleSolal

It’s a very special year for WGF as 2014 marks our 10th anniversary, but in case this is not enough of a celebration in itself, we are thrilled that it is also a special year for our own Artistic Director, Mark Eden, who celebrates 25 years of the Eden Stell Guitar Duo with the closing concert in WGF14 at Winchester College Music School on Saturday 14 June, 7.30PM. Eden Stell are widely regarded as one of the leading and most influential guitar duos in the world, and will be performing some of Mompou’s hauntingly beautiful songs and dances and Piazzolla’s Tango Suite.

The WGF celebrity concert series also welcomes for the first time, French guitarist extraordinaire, Gaëlle Solal, renowned for her exuberant and engaging performances. Gaëlle will perform a programme of Bach, and Brazilian composers, Gismonti, Garroto and Nazareth on Friday 13 June (7.30PM) in the intimate setting of St Lawrence Church.

WGF will be showcasing some of the finest young talent and rising stars of the guitar world with performances from GUITAR CIRCUS and also Kristian Richardson, who will be joined by string players from the Hampshire Specialist Music Course at Peter Symonds College in the opening lunchtime concert, which will include the rarely performed Quintet for Guitar and Strings by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

It promises to be a festival to remember, and we look forward to seeing you there!
